Many people drink bottled water instead of tap water, making bottled water the second most popular beverage in the United States behind soft drinks.
A study of one hundred brands of bottled water showed that a third contained arsenic, trihalomethanes, bacteria, or other contaminants. A fifth contained man-made chemicals, and one contained phthalate at twice the level acceptable in tap water. Two had high levels of fluoride, and two others had coliform bacteria. And if you think that bottled water is lead free, think again. The FDA allows bottled water to contain up to five parts per billion of lead.
