Pineapples for Constipation

Jewelweed - Relief of Poison Ivy

Although rashes from poison ivy and poison oak are extremely uncomfortable, but they are can be treated with home remedies.

  1. Look for jewelweed growing in moist ground near poison ivy plants as in the picture. Gather the stems and leaves after the dew is off the plants (10 to 11 am). 
  2. Cut the plants into 1 - 2 inch pieces, put them in a plastic bag, and then flatten them with a rolling pin, crushing them. 
  3. Put the crushed pieces in a pot, add enough water to cover the plant and  bring to boil and simmer until the water is reduced to half and color is amber.
  4. Let it cool, strain and pour the liquid in ice cube trays.
You can wash the affected are with a cube three or four times a day until the rash is gone. It not feels good, but it also works.

You can also buy jewelweed seeds and grow your own to be safe incase you don't find.

Healing Conjunctivitis



You can use a chamomile tea bag as a compress to reduce the inflammation of conjunctivitis (an inflammation of the mucous membrane conjunctiva, that lines the inner eyelid and eyeball). Put chamomile tea bag in warm water for 2 to 3 minutes, squeeze out the excess liquid, and then place the tea bag over your inflamed eye for 2 to 3 minutes. Use this three to four times a day.

Also, increase the intake of vitamin C which will help quieten the inflammation in case of allergic conjunctivitis.

For Rattlesnake Bites

A rattlesnake bite is a serious event, but by staying calm, following good procedures and using common sense, it doesn't have to be a fatal event. 
The less the victim moves the bitten site, the less likely the venom will be profused and cause damage.
  1. Have the victim lie down with the affected limb lower than the heart. Keep the limb immobilized. If practical, splint the limb.
  2. Treat for shock and preserve body heat.
  3. Remove any rings, bracelets, boots, or other restricting items.
  4. Apply a light constricting band about 2" above and below the bite, however never place the bands on either side of a joint (such as above and below the knee or elbow). This band should be made up of wide, soft material, which could be a handkerchief or shredded clothing. The band should only be as tight as the band the nurse applies when giving a blood test. The purpose of constricting bands is to restrict lymphatic flow, not blood, so they should not be too tight. 
  5. Wash the bite with soap and water (if available).
  6. Get the victim to immediate medical care for antivenin, which will provide the greatest relief from the toxic effects of the bite. Some individuals develop serious allergic reaction to the antivenin, therefore patients treated with the antivenin need to be monitored closely.

To Avoid Stings

Mix equal amounts of pure coconut oil and rosemary; shake and apply to the body. A homemade bug repellent, has a pleasant aroma but will keep stinging insects away.

For Multiple Insect Bites

Add 2-3 heaping tablespoons of baking soda into bath water and let the body soak in it. This will reduce some of the swelling and relieve much of the itching, especially if there are multiple insect bites on the body.

Another Version of Soak

Make a mixture of half apple cider vinegar and half warm water. Soak feet for 10 minutes. This relieves itching and peeling. Also, try rubbing the solution on the affected areas with cotton balls. 

Another alternative is to add 1/2 cup of white vinegar to 1 gallon of water and soak for 15 minutes at least twice a day.
Let the feet air-dry.

Popular Foot Soak

Althlete's foot is a fungal infection of the epidermis, the outermost layer of skin. 
Clorox bleach mixed in water is a popular foot soak. Though bleach is not an antifungal, but it does have disinfectant properties. Add 2 tablespoons of bleach to 1 gallon of warm water. Soak the feet for 10 to 15 minutes twice a day.
Discard any unused solution and keep out of reach of children.

Too Much Of A Good Thing?

Reduce Blood Cholesterol

Milk cultured with friendly bacteria significantly reduces the blood cholesterol levels. It has been noted that people who drink about two quarts of fermented milk a day, have low levels of cholesterol in their bloodstream.

Wash With Benzoyl Peroxide Liquid

Moldy Sweet Potatoes


Sweet potatoes spoil quickly, and any that have moldy spots or are shriveled should be thrown away. Cutting away the bad spots does not always help, because an unpleasant smell may have already spread to the rest of the potato.

To prevent from spoiling, store sweet potatoes in a cool place but not in the refrigerator. Temperature below 50 F will give them a hard core and an off taste.

Sweet potatoes are excellent source of beta carotene, potassium, vitamin C & B6, folate and some iron.

Green Tip

Avoid using peppermint, balm mint, wintergreen, or any other "minty" ingredients that smell and feel refreshing but can burn and sting. These extracts are better for deodorizing your feet than combating pimples!

As you know that bananas provide potassium and other nutrients, but bananas do not work to clear up allergies. In fact, bananas promote the production of a type of prostaglandin that's responsible for inflammation and smooth muscle contradictions. Stay away from bananas when you experience an allergy attack.

Olive Oil Protects Bowel Disorders

A new study finds that increasing your intake of olive oil may help protect against ulcerative colitis. 
Ulcerative colitis is an inflammatory bowel disease that causes ulcers in the lining of the rectum and colon, resulting in abdominal pain, diarrhea and weight loss. This study found that people whose diet was rich in oleic acid were far less likely to develop ulcerative colitis. 
Oleic acid is a monosaturated fatty acid found in foods such as olive oil, peanut oil, grapeseed oil, butter and some margarines. 

Oleic acid seems to help prevent the development of ulcerative colitis by blocking chemicals in the bowel that aggravate the inflammation found in the illness.
Study finds that half of the cases of ulcerative colitis could be prevented if larger amounts of oleic acid were consumed. Two-to-three tablespoons of olive oil per day would have a protective effect.



Flatten Your Tummy

Best way to reduce abdominal fat permanently is to walk. Walking increases your metabolism and burn off abdominal and other body fat. If you can, walk at least 30 to 45 minutes three to five times a week.

In addition to walking, which increases your respiratory and heart rates, try sit-ups and abdominal crunches.

Working your abs will work only when combined with fat-burning aerobic exercise like walking. Otherwise, you will still have a layer of fat over your abs.

Try to eat five to nine servings of fresh fruits and vegetables; lots of whole grains, such as whole-wheat pasta, multi-grain bread and cooked grains like bulgur; and a couple of servings of low-fat or skim milk every day.

Dry Cough

Storing Potatoes

  • Store potatoes in a dark, cool place but not in the refrigerator. Temperatures below 45 degree F convert the starch to sugar, giving the potato a strange taste. 
  • Any light gaining access to potatoes will cause them to go green; they will taste bitter and causes poisonous alkaloids such as solanine and chaconine to form, toxic substances that can cause diarrhea, cramps, and fatigue. This point is vital.
  • Also, do not store potatoes and onions together. The acids in onions aid the decomposition of potatoes and vice versa.
When stored properly, they can last for 3-6 months. 

Don't Eat Too Much Pickled Foods

A diet high in pickled foods has been linked to an increased risk of stomach and esophageal cancers. Lime Peels
